Spring Training Tryouts #2 This Saturday

Hi LPPLL families, a reminder that our second of three Spring Training tryouts is this Saturday, Jan. 29th. We had a great showing last weekend. We’ll also have another Gear Swap, so all families are welcome to come down to Dooley.

We sent an email earlier Tuesday to AAA families explaining that we are shortening each AAA session to 90 minutes and changing the start times of the second and third sessions of the day. AAA sessions will run from 9-10:30, 11-12:30 and 1-2:30.

Majors sessions will stay the same at 10-noon and 12:30-2:30. Majors players should show up at the same time they did last weekend.

We’ve had some common questions that we’d like to answer:

Are these tryouts mandatory? We are asking all families to try to make all three Saturdays to give our managers and coaches an opportunity to evaluate our players.

Can I switch times? Unfortunately, we have a lot of players and are not granting time slot change requests.

Where’s the Gear Swap? At the Snack Shack! Please bring any gear you’ve outgrown and feel free to take what you need.

Is the Snack Shack open? No, but rumor has it that Week 2 will feature some breakfast items.

When does my child start if they aren’t playing Majors or AAA? Our current estimate is AA could have a Spring Training session in mid-February if the weather holds. Rookies and T-Ball will not have Spring Training and will start practices in late February. Juniors families, we will have at least one team, but please sit tight as we figure out logistics.

Spring Training 2022 starts Jan. 22 for Majors, AAA

Thanks for being part of another great Land Park Pacific season! We’re only days away from 2022 Spring Training for our Majors and AAA players.

1) Spring Training 2022 starts this Saturday, Jan. 22, for Majors and AAA.
We’re starting the year with Dooley Field sessions on three consecutive Saturdays: Jan. 22, Jan. 29 and Feb. 5. If your child is registered in one of these divisions, look for the email with your assigned time. Your child’s session will run 2 hours each Saturday. This week’s session will focus on hitting but also have activities in the outfield. If your child is in AA, there will likely be a Spring Training event in early February. We are still working on those arrangements.

2) Why Spring Training?
This is a good way to get the kids back on the field, but it’s also a chance for the managers and coaches to get to know the players for the upcoming draft. We strive for competitive balance and need to evaluate players to ensure we have as much information as possible when we create teams. We feel 3 weeks of Dooley sessions will give players and managers more opportunity to demonstrate skills and get back into the swing of baseball. Questions? Email info@lppll.com.

3) Volunteer opportunities!
We need 6 parent volunteers each of the next 3 Saturdays. These break down as follows: We need 4 volunteers from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. to help with field stations. We also need 1 volunteer from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. and 1 volunteer from 1 to 2 p.m. to help check in players. This counts toward your 8 hours of LPPLL volunteering to recoup your $100 volunteer fee. Please email Volunteer Coordinator Shelli Pruger to sign up at lpboardsp@gmail.com.

4) Gear Swap this Saturday + gear dropoff info
We’re going to have a gear swap this Saturday, Jan. 22, at the Dooley Field Snack Shack area. Say hi to LPPLL President Carolyn Becker when you’re there. You can bring gear to Dooley on Saturday starting at 9 a.m., but you can also drop off your gear at the homes of three LPPLL board members this week if you’d like. Please refer to your Jan. 16 league email for more details.

5) Big thanks to our Sod Squad!
We had a great turnout last weekend to remove the old sod from Dooley in preparation for the new infield grass being installed this week. Fields Manager Dom Correa deserves credit for running the show. Dom says, “We had a good showing come out to put in some hard work and make it a very successful day. This saved the league at least $7,000. We had a number of coaches and managers, parent volunteers, and former players come out to make it happen.” Of special note, league parent Gino Sciandri, who owns Primo Landscape, donated a skid steer rental and allowed the league to borrow his sod cutter to make things go quickly last week. Go to our Facebook page here to find pictures, more details on the Dooley sod install and shoutouts to our tremendous volunteers.

6) Start dates for Juniors, AA, Rookie and T-Ball
AA will have Spring Training on a forthcoming Saturday, likely Feb. 5 or Feb. 12. We are working on field arrangements and will get you that information ASAP. Rookie and T-Ball will not have Spring Training and will start with practices once teams are assigned. Practices are expected to start in late February. Opening Day is Saturday, March 26, for all divisions. Juniors info is TBD.

7) Zoom session this Wednesday, Jan. 19, at 7 p.m. + ongoing outreach
We fielded some good questions during our initial Zoom info session last week and will hold another one this Wednesday at 7 p.m. Please join us if you have any questions about the league, Spring Training or other LPPLL activities. Also, please “like” our Facebook page to get more frequent updates on the league. As always, feel free to send questions to info@lppll.com and we’ll do our best to answer them in a timely manner or get them to the right board member.

LPPLL registration to close Jan. 16 for upper divisions

We have 415 players for the spring, and we’re keeping 2022 registration open a little longer. But don’t wait! We will close registration for AAA and Majors on Sunday, Jan. 16.

Please go here to register your child: https://tshq.bluesombrero.com/Landparkpacificll

You will need to create a SportsConnect account and upload documents verifying that your child resides within LPPLL boundaries or attends a school within our area. Please email us at info@lppll.com with any questions.

Some FAQs for registration:

Q: Why is there a $100 “non-volunteer” fee? A: LPPLL is one of the largest leagues in the region, and we rely on volunteers to coach, operate Dooley Field and run the organization. We charge a $100 fee per family at the start of the season that families can recoup during the season when they volunteer 8 hours.

Q: My child’s division is full. Am I too late? A: We capped divisions when we started registration based on what we thought we could accommodate. But we encourage every family to get on the wait list if their desired division is full. We hope to add everyone on the wait list and want every family interested to participate.

Q: Why do I have to upload so many documents? A: Little League International requires a birth certificate, as well as proof of residency within a league’s boundaries to participate. Please email info@lppll.com if you have further questions.

Q: My child has never played baseball before. Is this the right league for me? A: Yes! We have kids with varying levels of experience, and this is a recreational league. This is a great way for your child to learn the game, meet friends, get exercise and understand teamwork.

Q: I do not know what these divisions mean. Should my child play Rookie or AA? AA or AAA? A: These are good questions. The divisions are assigned by age at registration. However, at certain ages, players can end up in one of two divisions, according to our most recent bylaws. Experience, ability, family preference and league needs can all factor into where your child plays this year. Please email us at info@lppll.com if you have questions about this.

Q: My child wants to be with a certain manager. Is this possible? A: Yes, within reason, for the T-Ball and Rookie divisions. We have added a request line to our registration form. If you have already registered, please email us at info@lppll.com with your request and let your manager know.

Q: When does my child need to start showing up for practice or tryouts? A: Our upper divisions (Majors and AAA) will begin Spring Training on Saturday, Jan. 22, and there will be three Saturday sessions. These will help players get back into the baseball groove and give coaches an indication of each player’s ability. The AA Spring Training is still TBD. These are all included in your registration, not a separate program like last year. There will be no Spring Training or tryouts for the Rookie and T-Ball divisions. We will begin practices for all divisions the week of Feb. 19.

Q: How many baseball commitments a week will my child have? A: This depends on the division, but commitments increase as players get older. Our Majors and AAA players will have two games a week starting March 26 and likely will have practice(s) in addition. Our T-Ball teams will have a game every Saturday and likely a practice every week. Rookie and AA will fall somewhere in between T-Ball and AAA for commitments.

LPPLL Registration still open — but don’t wait!

Happy new year! Thanks for your support as we prepare for the 2022 Land Park Pacific Little League season. We’re expecting a great year and thrilled that we’ve already surpassed our 2021 registration numbers. Here are 5 things to know this first week of January:

  1. We’re keeping registration open for now. The regular window is over, but we have space for families that still want to sign up. Some divisions are near capacity, so please sign up ASAP here. And join the wait list if your division closes – we are doing what we can to accommodate.
  2. If you plan to be a manager or coach, get your application in immediately. Jan. 4 is the deadline. The board will begin reviewing applications this week.
  3. There will be plenty of opportunities for you to volunteer this season and recoup your $100 volunteer fee. Among them: Helping at our upcoming preseason clinics and tryouts; Opening Day activities; field prep; and additional Snack Shack volunteering. We’ll keep you posted in the coming weeks.
  4. We still have some board openings and would love your voice on our volunteer leadership team. Please email president@lppll.com with any questions.
  5. Speaking of which, the board is convening this week and will have more meetings to prepare for the season. Please email any questions or suggestions to info@lppll.com. We’ll do our best to keep you apprised of league news and changes.

Sunday 10/24 Rainout! No Games!

Fall Ball Families,

We have made the decision to cancel Fall Ball games tomorrow since every weather reporting service is predicting rain and lots of it.  From Weather Underground:
100% Precip. / 3.15 in
Periods of rain and wind. Rain becoming heavy at times in the afternoon. Potential for flooding rains. High 61F. Winds SSE at 20 to 30 mph. Chance of rain 100%. 3 to 5 inches of rain expected.
It is our hope to make up this Sunday’s games next Sunday 10/31.  We are working with the other leagues to work out the logistics and will hopefully be able to make a definitive announcement early next week.

Thanks and stay dry!

Fall Ball FAQ

Hello Parents,
As promised, here is more information on the Fall Ball Program:

AAA and Majors Clinics:

Schedule:
AAA will be Mondays and Wednesdays from 5-6:30pm.

Majors will be Tuesday and Thursday from 5-6:30pm.

Scrimmages for AAA and Majors will be Fridays from 5-6:30

Q: What time should we drop our kids off?
A: It would be best to drop off the clinic participants at around 4:50 at Dooley Field – 10 minutes before the posted start time. They should then go to Dooley 1 to meet the coaches. There is no formal check in at the entrance of Dooley Field but the coaches will take roll.

Q:  How about at the end of practice?
A:  Parents are welcome to come in and watch the end of practice (or the whole thing if you are so motivated) or you can ask your child to meet you in the Dooley parking lot/along San Mateo Way.

Q:  How should my child dress for the clinics and scrimmages?
A:  They should dress to play baseball:  baseball pants, jersey/shirt, cleats, and don’t forget that cup!  Also bring a glove, bat, and batting helmet.  We also recommend bringing water.

Q:  Who runs the Fall Ball clinics?
A:  LPPLL contracts with the CK McClatchy baseball coaching staff for our Fall Ball program.  The clinics are run by a combination of McClatchy coaches and current players.  The McClatchy coaches also manage the Friday scrimmages and those scrimmages are umpired by the McClatchy players.

Fall Ball Games:

Q:  When do the games begin and who do we play?
A:  Games start on Sept. 26 and run through Oct. 24.  All games are on Sundays.  We play other leagues in our district who also have Fall Ball programs.

Q:  When will players be assigned to teams and when will the schedule be released?
A:  Teams will be determined over the next week or two.  We are currently working with the other leagues on finalizing the schedule.  We will send that information to all registered families as soon as we have it finalized.

Q:  What about Fall Ball uniforms?
A:  Uniforms will be distributed prior to September 26.  As usual, jerseys (Dri Fit) and caps will be provided.  Payers are responsible for pants, socks, and belts.

Q:  Do we still need AA Players for the Games Only offering?
A:  Yes!  We can definitely use a few more players!  If you have signed up a AA player, tell your friends who have AA aged kids to sign up!  Maybe teammates from their Rookie team?  Classmates? This is a great way to keep playing some baseball during the fall.  Registration will remain open through this week.

Hopefully this answered your questions.  If not, send me a note.

Thanks,
Torrey
