2021 Schedules Posted!

With 2021 Opening day a week away, we have posted the 2021 schedules for Majors, AAA, and AA under the schedules tab. Looking forward to saying “Play Ball” for 2021!

Season Cancellation & Next Steps

Dear Land Park Pacific Little League families –

We were so close! We had tryouts, we had the drafts, we started practicing, and even got all our uniforms – then came COVID-19.

Since the shutdown began in March, the Board has been working hard behind the scenes to develop various scenarios for a possible season – always with health and safety in mind. We’ve pushed hard to get the Governor and the Sacramento County Public Health Department (SCPHD) to look at our plans to play baseball safely with social distancing and other precautions, in the large open space that is Dooley Field. But, youth sports have not been given the greenlight to play games, and it doesn’t appear that will come anytime soon.

With that in mind, we are sad to announce that the 2020 Little League season for Land Park-Pacific is over.

WHAT NEXT?

Many of you probably received the email that Land Park Soccer will not have a season this Fall. And SCPHD did recently decide to allow “youth sports conditioning” in groups of 10 or less, which means practices are OK, but games are not. With that in mind, we started formulating plans for some possible basic skills training for the kids. However we just learned from the news, the CDPH tells CBS13, “no recreational team sports or youth sports are permitted and the fitness guidance is not to be used for team sports activities.”  With cases of COVID-19 spiking right now in Sacramento, we don’t want to start something only to have to halt it a couple of weeks later. We’ll keep our eye on the numbers and the recommendations coming from health officials.

We’re also hoping to have an expanded Fall Ball at its regular time, from September to October. No one knows what the trajectory of the COVID-19 virus will be and whether it will still be with us in January and prevent us moving forward on a normal schedule next year so we will just have to wait and see.

IMMEDIATE FUTURE

Our immediate future is two-pronged.

First, we will show you our financial records and explain the process by which you can either:

·     donate your registration fees, or

·     take a credit of $100 per child and apply it to next year’s fees, or

·     opt for a refund of $100 per child through Blue Sombrero/SportsConnect (the same way you paid online).

As you can see in the attached spreadsheet (actual tax returns will be posted online at LPPLL.com) Registration Fees cannot be refunded in full due to the costs of equipment, uniforms, field rentals, upkeep for Dooley, and the bleacher renovations (as more fully set forth in the attached spreadsheet). Our bottom line this year was also impacted by the fact we did not have Snack Shack open and our Chocolate Bar fundraiser barely broke even. We also need to keep some reserves for upkeep at Dooley and next year – especially when the future is as unpredictable as it is. If you are seeking a monetary refund or credit for next year, please email TREASURER@LPPLL.COM and INFO@LPPLL.COM.

DEADLINE

We kindly request that you make your request as soon as possible, but no later than Friday, July 31st. After July 31, 2020 – all remaining registration fees will transition as a donation to LPPLL. We understand that each of us has been impacted by this crisis, and we thank each family in advance for your consideration of LPPLL.

BOARD ELECTIONS

Second, we need to elect the Board of Directors for next year. If you wish to be on the ballot, please email INFO@LPPLL.com BY JULY 18, 2020. If you want to know more about the duties of any Board position, feel free to email President@LPPLL.com or the person who currently holds that position, which are listed here: https://www.lppll.com/league/administration/.

We hope you and your family is safe and healthy and that we can all meet at Dooley soon.

Sincerely,

The Land Park-Pacific Little League Board of Directors

LPPLL Update- 5/21/2020

Hello LPPLL Families,

I hope this letter finds our community in good health. You may remember that previously we had asked that families make a commitment to either play this season, or not, by May 22nd – tomorrow. We thought that would allow enough to time for you to review our guidelines for resuming play and what the proposed schedules would look like. The Board formed a committee to research what social distancing would look like at Dooley (and Doc Oliver) and the steps we could take to let baseball be played safely.

We looked at having Tee Ball and Rookies play before AAA and Major games on M, T, Th and F evenings, with four games of AA being played on Wednesday nights. Then Majors, AAA and AA would play games on Saturdays and Sundays. We looked at playing shorter games with hard time limits so that arriving players would not overlap with departing players, even though we would have separate entry and exit points with hand washing stations located at the entrance and on either side of Dooley 2.

Encouragingly, we have recently received some good signs about baseball being played, from Ohio and San Diego and now even Sacramento County has moved forward with Outdoor Recreation. And, just yesterday, Little League gave their best practices for playing baseball during this pandemic. It was funny to see how closely the ideas we had come up with were echoed by Little League. However, no official start date for baseball to play ball has been given.

So, given what we know, the Board (in conjunction with other Little Leagues in District 7) has sent an email to Mayor Steinberg, the Sac County Public Health Department, Supervisor Patrick Kennedy, and the City of Sacramento Parks and Rec to encourage them to let us play ball. In our email We have pledged to follow the guidelines set forth by Little League, including any limit on spectators imposed by Sac County Health Department.  We will let you know as soon as we get the green light.

ALSO, out of an abundance of caution, we are planning to stagger the start of our season to have the Juniors, Majors and AAA divisions’ seasons start as soon as possible (hopefully from June 6 to July 25), and the AA, Rookie and Tee Ball divisions to follow immediately thereafter (hopefully on July 27). All of these divisions (except for Juniors) would be played at Dooley.

The decision to stagger the season was made after a lot of discussion. Believe it or not, the majority of the Boards’ kids are AA and below. We discussed concerns about lower division kids having a harder time maintaining social distance both on and off the field, as well as the fact that many kids in lower divisions do not all have their own gear for batting or catching and depend on sharing it.  As our lower division parents know, when a grounder is hit in the infield, players in these age groups often all run to it and the chance for contact/collision is higher. Similarly, in the lower divisions, managers need to physically touch their players to help them adjust their batting stances and throwing mechanics. Lastly, in AA, it is a hybrid of player and coach pitch so there are more hands on the ball.

We strongly believe that the lower division players need to be developed just as much as the older kids need to play their season.  So, for this season only, we will let the younger kids play every game at Dooley this Fall.  This may mean no Fall Ball for the older kids, unless we can secure access to alternate fields – something we will look into.  As a board, we are doing our best to come up with plans that serve all of our families, even if it means there are compromises to the “normal” schedule; we truly appreciate everyone’s understanding and patience.

We hope you will hang with us as we get guidance from the state, county and city to nail down the specifics of when the games will begin.  As soon as we hear back from the powers that be, or the County issues further guidelines on playing baseball, we will let you know.

Thank you,

Land Park-Pacific Little League Board of Directors
